Nationwide Honored for IT Excellence

Virtual Water Cooler, August 27, 2008

Miamisburg, Ohio — Teradata Corp., a provider of enterprise data warehousing technologies, reports that its customer, Columbus-based Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co., was recognized for its “Best Practices in Infrastructure Management” at an annual awards program hosted by Computerworld Magazine, Framingham, Mass.

“The goal of Nationwide’s strategic data warehouse infrastructure management initiative is to reduce costs through server consolidation and provide a solid foundation from which we can drive growth,” says Deepak Joshi, manager data warehouse, Nationwide Insurance. “We have successfully consolidated data warehouse servers, boosted processing power and added 10 terabytes of needed storage, which reduced annual costs by $1.6 million.”

Teradata says that Nationwide depends on its mission-critical data warehouse to drive growth in areas such as pricing research, claims reporting, sales analytics and customer relationship management. In addition, the warehouse is used to manage costs for claims processing and fraud detection. Replacement of the servers not only generated a cost savings, but reduced the data center footprint of the equipment and significantly decreased power and cooling costs, all by greater than 30%.

“Nationwide Insurance earned this award for their vision and the application of best practices in a highly competitive market,” says Andrew Coleman, account manager with Teradata. “Working with our partners from Nationwide, Teradata is pleased to have worked in concert with Deepak’s entire team to provide both tactical and strategic infrastructure planning in the refresh of Nationwide’s data warehouse technology.”
