Esurance has appointed Elinor MacKinnon to the position of managing director and CIO. Based at Esurance’s San Francisco headquarters, she will be responsible for all of IT, including the maintenance and development of software applications that support Esurance’s growing policyholder base, expanding state coverage and product offerings. In addition, she will oversee Esurance’s extensive network operations and data management function and report to CEO Gary Tolman.

“Elinor MacKinnon brings broad and successful experience in delivering innovative solutions that will help us further enhance our technology platform,” Tolman said. “Given our focus on providing customers with smarter and easier ways to fulfill their insurance needs, the role of chief information officer is a vital one at Esurance. Elinor’s talent and experience make her a great choice to step into this important position.”

MacKinnon joins Esurance from Blue Shield of California, where she led the company’s technology organization as CIO for eight years. MacKinnon also spent ten years at Charles Schwab, serving as a senior vice president in their technology organization during a period of explosive online growth.
