Agency Markets' Investigator is Honored for Fighting Fraud

Boston - Liberty Mutual Agency Markets (a strategic business unit of Liberty Mutual Group) senior special investigator Barbara Parker was honored by the National Society of Professional Insurance Investigators (NSPII) with the 2007 F. Lee Brininger Award, which annually recognizes one insurance professional's outstanding contribution to the fight against insurance fraud.

A member of the Agency Markets Special Investigations Unit since 2000, Parker was nominated by a fellow investigator from another carrier for her work in Ohio on behalf of Indiana Insurance, one of eight Agency Markets regional companies. Parker was instrumental in locating key witnesses in a large exposure-policy limits fraud case, in which the statements she obtained absolved an Indiana Insurance policyholder of liability. She also successfully located an at-fault party in a large uninsured motorist-bodily injury case, resulting in a positive outcome for both the policyholder and Indiana Insurance.

"As investigators, we add value to the claims department by locating witnesses and determining whether the facts of an investigation support a loss," says Parker. "Whether large or small, any claim that comes SIU's way is reviewed with an eye towards verifiability. If there's fraud involved, it's our obligation to uncover it."
