S&P has assigned its 'A-' rating to MetLife's $1 billion of Series D senior debentures. The Series D debt securities originally were issued in November 2010 as part of MET's 40 million common equity units issued to AM Holdings LLC (a subsidiary of American International Group) in connection with MET's acquisition of American Life Insurance Co. (ALICO). Each common equity unit initially comprised three stock-purchase contracts and ownership interests in each of the three series of debt securities issued by MET.
