Crum & Forster (C&F) has hired Roger Potter to head up an initiative designed to assist its underwriting, marketing, and claims operations through data mining and predictive modeling. As VP of data analytics, Potter will expand C&F's quantitative analysis capabilities. He also will work to identify areas where the use of business intelligence and strategic analyses can improve operating efficiencies and underwriting results.

C&F says Potter joins the company with more than 20 years of experience in the areas of quantitative research and analysis. Most recently, he served as head of advanced analytics at TyMetrix, a subsidiary of Wolters Kluwer. Prior, Potter held various research and development positions at Travelers and The Hartford.

Potter will be based in Morristown, N.J., reporting to Matt Kunish, SVP & chief actuary. "Data, by itself, without in-depth analysis in conjunction with business needs, is ineffective,” says Kunish. “Roger will drive our efforts to better utilize the vast amount of data we collect and translate it into strategic business solutions."
