Cloud and SaaS Dominate Disruption
As SOA and open source find their place in IT management, virtualization continues to shake things up, according to Saugatuck review.

Cloud computing and SaaS are at the center of disruption in IT management, as other trends in the last four years have settled in, according to a new review from Saugatuck Technology.
In an update of its report from 2007, “IT Management: The Journey Continues,” the Connecticut analyst firm rounded up a status report of technology areas that would cause widespread disruption in IT management. While open source, SOA and utility computing have been assimilated into the fabric of data operations since that first report, Saugatuck finds virtualization shaking up all facets of IT management, and expects that to continue into 2015, says Charlie Burns, author of the report and Saugatuck analyst.
As-a-service and cloud widespread capabilities and recent adoption have uniquely position virtualization as the prime factor for change for both vendors and users for the next few years, according to the report. Ripple effects of this are expected to be the move from centralized support teams to user organizations, new focuses on business process, and the implementation of manual or automatic services for end users, according to Burns and the report.
And that’s not to say the cloud is without challenges. Burns says that there must be enough readily accessible and adoptable cloud options from vendors, and a preparedness and awareness from data officers about negotiating service-level agreements and monitoring service delivery.
“The greatest challenges in adoption of any cloud-based offering are integration of the data and business process … with existing data and processes and management of the offering within the related workloads and business processes,” Burns says.
