Top States Ranked by Auto Insurance Rates

Louisiana regains the title of most expensive state in which to insure an automobile.

Justin Stephani’s 2012 U.S. study of average car insurance rates per state reveals that Louisiana ($2,536) leads the nation with the most expensive auto premiums. Last year’s study placed Louisiana at No. 2, a brief slip from the No. 1 perch the state also held in 2010. The lease expensive states were Wisconsin ($987), Iowa ($985) and Maine ($889).
