2013 Global Insured CAT Losses: $44 billion

Despite tornadoes in the United States, flooding and hail in Europe and Typhoon Haiyan, in terms of insured losses, Swiss Re finds it was a comparatively moderate year.

Insured losses from natural catastrophes and man-made disasters could total $44 billion this year, according to Swiss Re, a global wholesale reinsurer, a decrease from $81 billion last year.
