24 Insurers Evaluated on Sandy Claims Performance

Insurers continue to respond to Superstorm Sandy, as claims are reported daily. The New York State Insurers' Report Card list covers the insurers that comprise the majority of the insurance market in areas affected by Sandy and includes:
- Consumer policies such as homeowners’ and auto insurance.
- Business policies such as business interruption insurance.
The information was last updated on Dec. 20, 2012 and is current as per the New York Department of Financial Services on Jan. 3, 2013.

* As of 12/20/12, State Farm had made payments on 39,188 claims, only 27,364 of which were closed.
** These estimates encompass a wide array of claims and vary based on the complexity of the loss and damage severity.
